Velt & Vecht takes care of the water in Southeast Drenthe and Northeast Overijssel. It is primarily a rural area with abundant nature and farming. A region that, with just 200,000 inhabitants, is also one of the most thinly populated areas in the Netherlands. The surface area is about 90,000 hectares. All the area’s water ultimately drains via the Vecht to the IJsselmeer. This water board derives its name in part from this lowland river. ‘Velt’ is a reference to the fields along the Vechtdal that characterise our area of operation. The eastern part, at the German border, lies more than twenty meters higher than the western part (at Ommen).
